Traffic and parking changes for home games

Parking and traffic changes take place when we have home football games. Details are provided to the campus through Virginia Tech News and posted at the Parking Services website prior to every game.

Please note for the Thursday night game on November 6th. Faculty may wish to consider an early release or rescheduling of evening classes and labs due to traffic and parking congestion. A special announcement will be issued for the Thursday night game. A football parking map (1.5 MB PDF) is available for your convenience.

Fans coming to the football game can find traffic and parking information at the HokieSports Game Day Information page.

Parking restrictions

On the day before every home football game the following lots and roads will be restricted to no parking after 5:00 p.m. All vehicles must be removed from these lots and roads by 10 p.m. that night or be subject to towing.

All resident students vehicles that are parked along the outside perimeter of the Duck Pond Road Resident Lot (the "Cage") next to the fence must move by 5 p.m. on the day before the football game. Additionally, all resident student vehicles must vacate the Stadium Lot by 10 p.m. on the day before the game. Resident students can park in one of the following areas:

Handicap parking

Handicap parking is available in Shultz Lot (located off the Alumni Mall). Signs will be posted for guidance to this area. Handicap shuttles will transport persons from this lot to the stadium before, during and after the game.

Campus parking fees

The public is charged $10 for parking on campus during all football games. This only applies to folks who do NOT have a valid VT parking permit. If you display a VT parking permit there's no charge.

The lots used by the public are Prices Fork Road Lots, Perry Street Lots (large commuter lots next to Prices Fork Road and Perry Street) and the Inn at Virginia Tech Lot.

Public RVs must park in the Prices Fork Road Lot P6 at the intersection of West Campus Drive and Prices Fork Road. The RV parking fee is $30.

Blacksburg Transit (BT) will run buses on all normal routes for home game weekends and will add additional buses as needed. Football game day fare for the public features a $2, exact change only, per rider fare, starting 3 hours prior to the scheduled kickoff and ending the the beginning of halftime. From halftime until 3 hours after the end of the game the system will be fare free. If you have a valid Hokie ID there will be no charge. Regular fixed-route service is suspended for 2 hours after each game so the the buses can be used to assist departing fans.

Football shuttles

BT football shuttles will run to Lane Stadium starting two and a half hours before game time from the parking lot by Blacksburg High School and from the new Blacksburg Middle School at 15 minute intervals.
