Visitors
Blacksburg, VA, part of the New River Valley, is situated on a plateau in the Appalachian Mountains -- North America's oldest mountain range. It has become a vibrant community over the years with activities suited for everyone's taste. There are a number of restaurants and lodging facilities in and around Blacksburg -- something for everyone. Weekend activities range from crafts, movies, cultural events, golf, or enjoying the mountains and the New River. Visitor Parking
Visitors (non-students or non-faculty/staff) may park in any faculty, staff, visitor, or student parking space if they have a valid visitor parking permit and if the space is not restricted by signs. Some restricted areas include handicap spaces, carpool spaces, loading zones, service vehicle zones, timed areas, sidewalks, grass, admission areas, teaching assistant spaces, Owens and the Dietrick Dining Hall Lots. Visitors may park around the Drillfield with a valid visitor parking permit. Visitors are recommended to use the Faculty/Staff section of Perry Street Lot, Litton Reaves Lot, Coliseum Lot, Derring Lot, Washington Street, Litton-Reaves Extension Lot and Shultz Lot.
Visitor parking permits are available at the Visitor Information Center on Southgate Drive (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday) or at the University Police Department in the Maintenance Complex off Southgate Drive all other times. Visitor permits must be signed and dated by an authorized parking services or police official and displayed 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, unless otherwise noted by a sign.
If a department has a visitor coming, they may email Parking Services in advance by for a visitor parking permit. Please e-mail 24 hours in advance for preparation of permits. Students should direct their visitors to pick up a visitor permit themselves at the Visitor Information Center during regular office hours or the Police Department at all other times.
Visitor permits are not needed on weekends (Friday, 5:00 p.m. to Monday, 7:00 a.m.), unless otherwise noted by a sign. Metered parking spaces are also available for short-term visitors on campus. Visitors with parking permits may not park free at parking meters.
Visitors who park an RV on campus need to obtain a Visitor Permit from the Visitor Information Center, located on Southgate Drive. RV parking on campus will cost the same amount as Visitor Permit which currently is free. All RVs parking on campus will park in the Duck Pond Overflow Lot (except during the football season).
