Recycling News

August 12: VTR now collects MIXED PAPER. This broad category includes the three previous categories--Sorted Office Paper, Glossy Magazines & Catalogs, and Newspapers--and additional paper items. Read more.

May 3-8, 2008: Contributions of good, useable items from Student Move Out accepted at "Y-Toss?" collection sites. Volunteers are needed! For more information, go to the YMCA Student Programs website.

March 30, 2008: The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is now equipped with paper bins, commingled container bins, and service by Housekeepers. VTR thanks Dean Rowlands and the CLAHS faculty, staff, and students.

March 12, 2008: The Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine is now equipped with paper bins, commingled container bins, and service by Housekeepers. VTR thanks Dean Schurig and the VMRCVM faculty, staff, and students.

February 29, 2008: The College of Science is now equipped with paper bins, commingled container bins, and service by Housekeepers. VTR thanks Dean Chang and his CS faculty and staff.

February 20, 2008: The College of Natural Resources is now equipped with paper bins, commingled container bins, and service by Custodians. This applies to departments in Cheatham Hall, Price Hall, Latham Hall, Major Williams, and Brooks Forest Products Center. VTR thanks Dean Kelly and his staff.

February 4, 2008: VT Recycling now has a blog: The Scrap Bin!

February 3, 2008: The College of Architecture and Urban Studies is now equipped with paper bins, commingled container bins, and service by custodians. This applies to departments in major buildings on the core campus. Outlying facilities, such as offices in Collegiate Square, and on Wall Street and Plantation Road will be addressed before the end of the '08 school year, through an Auxiliary Paper Route operated by student volunteers from the Environmental Coalition. VTR thanks Dean Davis and his staff.

Jan. 30, 2008: The College of Natural Resources is equipped with paper bins, commingled container bins, and service by custodians. VTR thanks Dean Kelly and the CNS faculty and staff. The Geography Department, part of CNS, but housed in Major Williams, was unfortunately overlooked, but was finally equipped in early March, as part of the "reinstatement" process for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. Thank you, Peter!

Jan. 23, 2008: The College of Engineering is now equipped with paper bins, commingled container bins, and service by custodians. VTR thanks Dean Benson and his staff.

Jan. 22: The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is now equipped with paper bins, commingled container bins, and service by custodians. VTR thanks Dean Quisenberry and her staff.

Jan. 3: Get ready for Recyclemania 2008, January 27 to April 5! A friendly competition to encourage recycling on college and university campuses nationwide, Recyclemania is the hottest thing to hit recycling since aluminum cans! In 2007, 201 schools participated, together collecting 41.3 million pounds of recyclables. Check out the website and let's make Virginia Tech a winner in Recyclemania 2008!

Nov. 28, 2007: The Pamplin College of Business is now fully equipped with paper bins, commingled container bins, and service by custodians. VTR thanks Dean Sorensen and his staff.

Nov. 15: VTR delivered paper bins to all departments in Pamplin; arrangements finalized for servicing of bins by Custodial staff and pick up of paper from building by VTR-10 (recycling truck) crew

Nov. 13: Meeting with Pamplin College of Business Dean Sorensen and staff. Dean Sorensen approved program, requested delivery of bins.

Nov. 12: Meeting with departmental representatives from CALS to discuss paper recycling program guidelines, with request to reps for list of department paper bin locations.
