Active Commute Celebration unveils U Car Share and promotes sustainable transportation

The Active Commute Celebration will be taking place on Wednesday, September 16 on the Drillfield from 8a.m. -1p.m.
The recent approval of the Virginia Tech Climate Action Commitment by both President Steger and the Board of Visitors has pushed environmental awareness to the top of Virginia Tech's initiative list. The commuting options offered by Transportation and Campus Services provides important resources and benefits for faculty, staff and students to participate in alternative transportation commuting therefore contributing to the decrease of Virginia Tech's carbon footprint. The Active Commute Celebration will be helping to advance Virginia Tech's sustainability initiatives and help Virginia Tech faculty, staff and students find more affordable commuting methods.
At this year's Active Commute Celebration, a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new U Car Share program (Info here) will be taking place as the vehicles are now available on campus and active for members to reserve.
"We're hoping for a great turn out this year, especially since we'll be launching our U Car Share program. It's great to see the university and local community supporting alternative modes of commuting," says Debby Freed, Alternative Transportation manager at Virginia Tech.
The program will include breakfast, coupons for discounts on bike lights and helmets, information about Virginia Tech's Commuter Alternative Programs, health information, bicycle safety information from Bike/Walk Virginia and Yield 2 Life, bicycle registration and safety checks by East Coasters, Bike Barn, and Hokie Spokes, plus much more!
