Space Management

The University Space Official oversees the policies, processes, and data that guide how university space is allocated and used across campus. This page provides an overview of space-related resources, standards, and planning efforts. The Office of Space Management plays a critical role in advancing Virginia Tech’s mission by ensuring the strategic, equitable, and efficient use of existing university space resources in support of the University Strategic Plan.

Our team centralizes space management processes, promotes transparency, and provides data driven solutions to address both immediate and long-term space needs. These responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and maintaining University Policy 5400.
  • Conducting comprehensive space assessments to evaluate current utilization and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Managing space requests.
  • Developing space standards and guidelines.
  • Coordinating data and fostering collaboration among colleges and departments to maintain accurate space inventories and support campus wide planning.
